Floyd’s death sparks unrest and street protests in Minneapolis and other states in the United States.
Floyd died after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for at least seven minutes, while he was handcuffed and lying facedown on the road.
Officers Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng also helped restrain Floyd, while officer Tou Thao stood nearby and looked on. Bystanders and witnesses tried to stop the police but the authorities ignored their pleads.
