This proud Batanguena, a native of Santo Tomas, Batangas, is doing her parents and the Philippines proud by serving on the a nearly 1,100-foot aircraft carrier of the US Navy.
Airman April Pagulayan is one of the featured sailors for March on the US Navy’s website for servicemen for her service as an aviation boatswain’s mate aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush.
Pagulayan is a graduate of De La Salle University in Lipa who works with approximately 3,200 crew members and another 2,500 men and women on the air wing for more than 70 aircraft aboard the ship.
She has multiple responsibilities aboard the twin nuclear reactor-powered ship — tasks which she carries out with lessons she received from her parents.
“I will never forget the lessons from my parents,” she said. “The morals they taught me, like my dad taught me no matter what your job, give it a hundred percent.”
“I’m most proud of being strong enough, this being the first time I’m away from home, and never giving up on my dreams.”
