PLDT Marks #WorldWifiDay With Free, Unlimited Smart Wifi Public Access In Government Hubs

Anyone with a smart device can access free, unlimited fiber-fast internet connectivity today, June 20, as leading telecoms and digital services provider PLDT opens up Smart Wifi access to the public in government buildings and offices in different parts of the country to celebrate World Wi-Fi Day.
Smart Free Wifi
PLDT is giving unlimited access to Smart Wifi in 58 government sites all over the country including provincial capitols, city halls, municipal halls, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) offices, and Land Transportation Office (LTO) branches where users can experience internet speeds of up to 100mbps.
“As we celebrate World Wi-Fi Day today, we are giving everyone free unlimited internet access in selected Smart Wifi spots in government offices on top of the regular 30-minute free access,” says PLDT VP and Head of Enterprise Core Business solutions Jojo Gendrano.
“On the whole day of June 20, users can just continuously reactivate their 30-minute usage indefinitely to enjoy unlimited internet access in these Smart Wifi locations,” he added.
Since introducing Smart Wifi to the public, more than 400 sites have been put up in different locations including airports, seaports, government offices, tourist destinations, foodparks, school campuses, hospitals, and metro rail transportation systems.
Smart has been supportive of the Wireless Broadband Alliance’s (WBA) global initiatives for collaborative opportunities for service providers, enterprises and cities, enabling them to enhance the customer experience on Wi-Fi and significant adjacent technologies such as the Smart Wifi service.
“The WBA’s World Wifi Day is all about connecting the unconnected. Today we celebrate that vision by providing our countrymen with access to world-class internet, paving the way for a more connected and truly future-ready Philippines,” says SVP & Head of PLDT and SMART Enterprise Business Groups Jovy Hernandez.”
The Smart Wifi locations have been providing super speed internet access for all regardless of the user’s network.
The regular limited access can be extended by purchasing Smart Wifi load cards from retailers. Smart, TNT and Sun subscribers can also convert their prepaid load or charge to their postpaid account.
World Wi-Fi day is a global initiative organized by Wireless Broadband Alliance under the leadership of Connected City Advisory Board (CCAB) to help bridge the digital divide. It is a platform to recognize and celebrate the significant role Wi-Fi is playing in cities and communities around the world by driving exciting and innovative projects to ‘connect the unconnected’.
